Olympic National Park

At Olympic National Park, forest, coastal, and mountain ecosystems combine to create a spectacular wilderness park. Designated as both a World Heritage Site and an International Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations, the park is a living laboratory for scientists and students, as well as an incredible natural playground for visitors.

From Port Angeles, drive about 30 minutes west to Lake Crescent where you can stroll along the shores of the 12-mile long, glacially-carved lake. From Forks, a 20-minute drive will bring you to Rialto Beach, where you can walk along a beach amidst drift logs and stones, watch waves crash onto offshore islands, and perhaps spot a bald eagle soaring overhead

Whether you visit the park for a few hours, a day or several days there is plenty to see and do. A 45-minute drive from Port Angeles to Hurricane Ridge brings you from the lowlands blanketed with old growth forests to treeline, where clumps of subalpine firs give way to open meadows. On a clear day, views of the Olympic Mountains and Strait of Juan de Fuca are spectacular.

922,000 acres, Olympic offers endless possibilities for recreation, sightseeing, study, and relaxation. Whether it’s hiking for miles through the high-country, enjoying a picnic, cross-country skiing at Hurricane Ridge, or strolling on a beach or nature trail, no matter what the season, there are numerous opportunities to experience and explore Olympic National Park.
