Take time to visit the quaint Amish village of Yoder where you can peruse the hand made quilts and then perhaps enjoy lunch at Carriage Crossing Restaurant. Your afternoon is best spent at Kansas Cosmospere and Space Centre, a world class space museum featuring one of the largest collections of US space artifacts.

Then its on to the Kansas Underground Salt Museum, where the exhibits are displayed 650 feet beneath the Kansas prairie in a working salt mine. More animals this afternoon at Maxwell Wildlife Refuge, home to roaming herds of bison and elk. En route to Salina make a stop at Lindsborg, filled with unique shops, museums and art galleries and at Smoky Hill Vineyards where you can taste over 25 wines.

The town of Council Grove has no fewer than 13 sites designated as National Historic Landmarks and is rich in Santa Fe Trail and pioneer history, so make sure you make a stop here before finally following the road south on the Flint Hills National Scenic Byway to tallgrass Prarie National Preserve. On your second day why not take the Overland Wagon Tour, a western adventure highlighting the pioneers of the 1840’s and 1850’s, or take a personalised ranch experience into the Flint Hills.
