Day 4, 5

St Michaels

80mi / 129km

Today you cross Chesapeake Bay Bridge, which in itself is a wonderful and scenic experience, and enter the more laid back peninsula area. The roads narrow, and the journey becomes simply spell-binding, dotted with small towns and villages. If you are following the Chesapeake Country Scenic Byway, we suggest a stop in Easten. Renowned as one of the best small towns in America, you can visit the Academy Art Museum, historic Quaker meeting house and stroll the streets lined with elegant Victorian homes. St Michaels is simply a picture-postcard setting. The high street is beautifully quaint, with local shops and cafes lining each side. Take a visit to the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, featuring a working boatyard, hands on activities for kids and a restored 1879 lighthouse. It is literally located next door to your hotel for the evening. The Inn at Perry Cabin is one of the best hotels in Maryland. Here you can dine on crab cakes overlooking the harbour.

Day 6, 7

Cambridge

34mi / 55km

It is just a short drive to Cambridge, but a wonderfully scenic one. Perhaps take the opportunity of a stop in Easton if you didn’t get chance previously, or choose one of the other small towns they are all idyllic. You will know you are about to reach your destination when you cross the bridge over Choptank River. Whilst in Cambridge visit the Dorchester County Visitor Centre, the new Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Centre and Blackwater National Refuge Centre, but ensure you save plenty of time to relax at your resort hotel. It offers pools, waterslides and more adventurous water activities such as kayaking.

Annapolis

58mi / 93km

Annapolis is filled with history, culture and maritime charm. This ‘Sailing Capital of the World’ is renowned as the crown jewel of the Chesapeake Bay. Known for the elite U.S. Naval Academy, the United States Sailboat Show, and its historic Maryland State House, Annapolis is also home to charming, bricked streets lined with one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants. The state’s Capital is one of the most walkable cities in the country and consistently named one of the top ten places in America to live. To familiarise yourself with the destination and learn about its fabled history, we suggest you take the Four Centuries Walking Tour, escorted by a costumed guide. You should also take the Harbor Queen harbour cruise, to see the city from a different perspective. Fully narrated it is a wonderful experience.
