Head east from Waikiki through Kapi’olani Park. Follow the road that goes around the front of Diamond Head. As well as being Hawaii’s most recognizable landmark, it has a couple of scenic overlooks where you can watch the surfers along the South Shore. Travel on through Kahala and Hawaii Kai to the rugged east coast of the island.
Enjoy some fantastic snorkelling at Hanauma Bay before you continue on past the Blow Hole and Sandy Beach to Makapu’u, a perfect place to stop and enjoy sights of the real Hawaii. Mark Twain said that Hawaii is ‘the most beautiful fleet of islands. The mountains plunge from the sky into the sea and on a clear day the palette of colour is breathtaking. If you are an accomplished body surfer, you will definitely enjoy the challenge of Makapu’u Bay.
