Amherst holds it’s own in Canadian history as the home to the four Fathers of Confederation: Edward B. Chandler, Robert B. Dickey, Jonathan McCully, and Sir Charles Tupper. The town is still reminiscent of this era, with Victorian and Edwardian homes alluding to the town’s charming past. Offering a variety of shops, charming architecture, a historic downtown and the Joggins Fossil Cliffs and Centre which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Amherst hosts many annual festivals and events including the Maritime Rockabilly Shakedown Festival and Blueberry Festival the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival and the wonderful Artisan and Farmers Markets which occurs throughout the summer. Wildlife encounters and the outdoor experiences are plentiful within the the Amherst Point Migratory Bird Sanctuary.
