4 night / 5 day package
Day 1: Arrival and OrientationAfter a quick 55 minute flight to Miminiska Lodge from Thunder Bay International Airport, you’ll land on the runway behind the lodge, where your personal concierge meets you and delivers your bags to your cabin. After settling in, you regroup in the main lodge for a Canadian-themed welcome cocktail and an orientation of your week, as well as a First Nations ceremonial smudging ritual performed by a local Ojibwe. The rest of the afternoon is free for you to explore the lodge and get acquainted with your new surroundings. Do some yoga, grab a paddle board, canoe, kayak or just relax on the dock and read. Later in the evening, enjoy pre-dinner cocktails as well as the finest Ontario wine and local craft beer. After dinner in the main lodge, you can gather around the bonfire and meet your First Nations interpretive guides for the week, who will prepare you for the adventure that awaits.
Days 2 – 4: Immerse Yourself in Northern Ontario WildernessEach morning, enjoy freshly brewed coffee or tea delivered to your cabin at the time of your choosing, followed by a made-to-order breakfast in the main dining lodge. Over the next 3 days, experience the best and most unique parts of Northern Ontario, including the vast network of lakes and rivers that weave their way around the unique topography of Boreal forests dotting the Canadian Shield. Learn to fish these pristine waters with an expert guide, and then watch as your fresh walleye is breaded and fried up right in front of your eyes for the ultimate boat-to-table experience: an outdoor shore lunch on a private island. You’ll canoe, kayak, and standup paddle to your heart’s content, enjoy nightly bonfires and entertainment, relax in the lakefront sauna, refresh your body with a dip off the dock in Miminiska Lake, and enjoy the long days of sun that are unique to being so far North. Take a day trip by boat to Snake Falls and Church Island, two major historical Anishnaabe (First Nations) sites. Your interpretive guides will regale you with facts and tales about their lives on this very land, not too long ago. The history on Miminiska is very recent and very real, and your guides will be there to tell you about what it was like growing up and living as a First Nations in this iconic region of Ontario. Ontario has the largest percentage population of Aboriginals in Canada. When night falls, sit by the crackling fire and listen to the sounds of the wolves howling and loons crooning as you gaze up at the millions of twinkling stars overhead. If you stay up late enough and the timing is right, you’ll have the opportunity to watch as the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) dance across the dark night sky, weaving their whisps of green luminescence to take your breath away.
Day 5: Return to Thunder BayGet up early this morning to take in the last views of this pristine wilderness while you sip your fresh coffee on deck. After another delcious breakfast, you make your way back to Thunder Bay International Airport on the same Pilatus 8-seater plane we took in.
