McCarthy & Kennicott Adventure With Glacier Hike

Start your tour with a spectacular flight from Chitina Airport through Wrangell-St. Elias National Park to Kennicott where you join your guide on Main Street for a half-day hike. This moderate hike takes you to Root Glacier. Along the way, your guide will explain the natural history of the area, including wildflowers, geology and the effects glaciers have had upon the landscape. At the glacier, strap on your crampons and take your first steps onto the otherworldly terrain. Hike out across the ice as far as you can, discovering the many different features on the surface of the glacier: crevasses, moulins, and perhaps even an ice cave. The color and beauty of these features will astound you before you enjoy the scenic flight back at 5.00 pm.
