A big state with a bigger heart

Texas doesn’t do anything in small doses. There’s the glittering city of shopping-heaven Dallas along with heritage-rich and relatively ‘petite’, but lively Austin which is surrounded by wilderness. Then there’s the gateway city of Houston, home to the nation’s space programme with a deserved reputation for its restaurant scene. American lifestyle fuses with a Mexican flair in elegant San Antonio where the Tex-Mex cuisine, colourful history, charming boutiques, and romantic evening river walks ensure a memorable stay. San Antonio is also where you’ll find The Alamo, which dates back to 1724 and is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Texas’ wide-open spaces

An outdoor adventure beckons with dude-ranching, hiking trails, and other outdoor pursuits whilst the theme parks and 900 golf courses are just the start of the entertainment and activities on offer. Don’t forget that Texas has its own coastline too – Galveston and Corpus Christi are the key coastal cities and the places to drink in the sea air as you wander around the waterfront before a delicious seafood dinner.

Ranching

No trip to Texas is complete without a stay on a ranch. From horseback riding to learning how to rope, the working dude ranches found in Texas are a great place to learn all about the cowboy culture and see how a real ranch works, while getting your hands dirty and helping out. The small town of Bandera, located in the beautiful Texas Hill Country, is the self proclaimed ‘Cowboy Capital of the World’ and features an abundance of ranches, honky tonks and small stores.  Every Friday night throughout summer, the town rodeo takes place and is an iconic Texan spectacle.
